Special Benefits for Employees

Confidential, support services - Employee and Family Resources Program

YNHHS now offers employees and their covered dependents a new Employee and Family Resources (EFR) program. Employees and their family members can access free, confidential counseling and support services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Employees may get the help they need for relationship issues, stress and anxiety, alcohol or substance abuse, financial or legal issues, childcare or eldercare and other personal or work concerns.

Tuition Assistance Program

Tuition Assistance Program

YNHH offers employee tuition assistance to further their careers

Yale-New Haven Hospital encourages eligible employees to obtain additional education in an accredited college, university, or an approved business or trade school. Most full- or part-time employees are eligible to participate in the program. Countless employees have expressed how helpful the tuition assistance program has been in helping them advance their education and professional careers.

One of many inspiring examples of an employee's success with the help of the tuition assistance program:

After working at YNHH for 35 years as a licensed practical nurse, Sarah Johnson decided to go back to school and become a registered nurse. She began an on-line program at Excelsior College in Albany, New York, which also included practical work at New York City Hospital.

Johnson recently received her nursing degree and became licensed as a Registered Nurse. She says the hospital's tuition reimbursement program and her manager's commitment to giving her flexibility so she could pursue her studies helped her earn the coveted degree. Hardship Fun

YNHH Employee Hardship Fund

Yale-New Haven Hospital established a fund for employees who face an unexpected emergency and need financial help to get through it.

The YNHH Employee Hardship Fund provides limited financial assistance to employees with an immediate, severe and temporary financial hardship. YNHH senior managers provided the initial seed money for the fund and a special review committee comprised of representatives from throughout the hospital determined how funds are awarded.

YNHHs first time home buyers program

Celebration marks 5th anniversary of HOME Program

Yale-New Haven recently celebrated the 5th anniversary of its HOME – Home Ownership Made Easier – program. Launched in 2006, YNHH's HOME program provides eligible full-time and part-time employees with up to $10,000 in forgivable five-year loans, as well as other incentives and home buying support, when they purchase a home in the city of New Haven. The hospital pays down the amount of the loan if the employee continues to work at YNHH and live in the home for at least five years.

Also, employees who purchase a home in one of four New Haven neighborhoods all near the hospital campus, are eligible for a $200 a month mortgage subsidy for the first two years of their home ownership.

In the first five years of the program, employees purchased 75 homes through the hospital's HOME program.
